Editorial Policy
Purpose and Standards
Backpacker Sleep exists to help you sleep better outside through accurate, transparent, and context‑aware guidance. Our content adheres to rigorous research, testing, and disclosure standards. Objectivity and user safety come first.
Independence and Conflicts
We do not accept payment for placement or favorable coverage. Review units may be purchased at retail, borrowed, or provided by brands; sourcing never influences outcomes. Team members must disclose potential conflicts and recuse themselves where appropriate.
Fact‑Checking and Review Process
Editors verify product specs, pricing, and availability at time of publication. Test data, calculations, and Real Warmth Index outputs are reviewed by a second editor. A Sleep Science Advisor checks comfort assumptions and fit guidance. We cite primary sources where relevant.
Scoring and Recommendations
Ratings reflect real‑world comfort by system, not just ISO numbers. We report expected comfort ranges, safety margins, fit notes, and upgrade paths. When two products tie, we prioritize reliability, repairability, and user value.
Updates and Corrections
We revisit key guides at least seasonally or when products change. Corrections are timestamped with notes on what changed and why. Outdated models are labeled, archived, or replaced.
Affiliate Relationships
Some outbound links are affiliate links. If you purchase through them, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate relationships do not affect rankings, coverage, or conclusions. We choose retailers for availability, service, and return policies beneficial to readers.
User Contributions
When we publish community data or quotes, we obtain permission and clarify anonymity preferences. We may edit for clarity and length without changing meaning.
